Politics, Cricket And Bollywood Stars Light Up Harbhajan Singh And Geeta Basra's New Delhi Reception

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and host of dignitaries from Bollywood, cricket fraternity and politics graced the high-profile wedding reception of India offspinner Harbhajan Singh and actress wife Geeta Basra at a posh hotel in New Delhi on Sunday night.

Modi arrived late in the evening amidst a blanket of security in and around the venue and blessed the couple before leaving after spending some time interacting with the high-profile guests at the venue. Interestingly, former Prime Minister and economist Manmohan Singh too attended the reception and blessed the newly-wed celebrity couple.

The two were colour coordinated with Harbhajan looking suave in his velvet embroidered sherwani kurta and wife Geeta wearing a blue mirror work lehanga, embroidered kurta and a stunning diamond choker.

Among the first to arrive at the venue were former India captain and Harbhajan's one-time teammate Anil Kumble and his wife and former Punjab Director General of Police KPS Gill, who also served as President of the banned Indian Hockey Federation.

Also present at the reception were Indian cricketers Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Varun Aaron, Ajinkya Rahane and his wife, Ravichandran Ashwin and his father, Team India Director Ravi Shastri, Indian Premier League Commissioner and Congress MP Rajeev Shukla and his wife, pacer Munaf Patel and former India captain Kapil Dev among others.

They may be smiling now but four of these five cricketers will be competing for three batting spots come November 5 when India take on South Africa in the first Test at Mohali.

Virat Kohli, sans girlfriend Anushkar Sharma was seen taking many selfies with current and former cricketers like Sarandeep Singh.

Yuvraj Singh took a break from his Ranji Trophy duties for Punjab to attend Harbhajan's reception at the capital. Virender Sehwag too was seen at the function. The star-studded ceremony was attended by more than 1,000 guests.

Harbhajan tied the nuptial knot with Geeta in a gurudwara in Jalandhar last Thursday. The wedding was attended by some close relatives and friends, including cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and wife Anjali.

Earlier, a mehendi and sangeet ceremony were also held at 35-year-old Harbhajan's family home. Harbhajan and Geeta, who has acted in several Hindi and Punjabi films, have had a five years of courtship before they took the marital plunge.
