Earlier in the match, SRH set a formidable target of 266 runs for DC, courtesy of a scintillating batting display led by Travis Head. The Australian opener, continuing his rich vein of form, blazed his way to an 89-run knock off just 32 balls, decorated with 11 boundaries and six maximums.
Head, along with Abhishek Sharma, laid a solid foundation for SRH with a record-breaking 125-run partnership in the powerplay. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals thereafter, Shahbaz Ahmed's unbeaten fifty and valuable contributions from Nitish Reddy propelled SRH to the massive total.
This marks the third instance this season that SRH has crossed the 260-run mark, underscoring their dominance with the bat in IPL 2024. Their exceptional batting prowess has seen them rewrite records, including surpassing the previous highest team total of 263 runs, a milestone that had stood for over a decade in the IPL.
In reply to SRH's formidable target, DC's opening duo Shaw and Warner fell cheaply. Yet, Fraser McGurk's blistering 65 off 18 deliveries and Porel's brisk 42 off 22 balls injected vitality into the chase. However, as their wickets tumbled, the flow of boundaries ebbed, and DC's momentum waned. Natarajan's return spell proved decisive as he dismantled DC's lower order. Ultimately, the Delhi Capitals crumbled, being bowled out for 199 runs.
