The pandemic has been hard on everyone as there is a limit to socializing due to health risks. However, Belgian artist Elke Lemmens has discovered a way to form bonds in the current situation.
As per a report in AP, she is putting her skills to good use. Using a community-building grant from Antwerp she is linking ordinary lives to extraordinary stories and bringing them to light by using boot-scrapers. Lemmens plans to install at least 50 miniature scenes in the old niches outside houses where families clean their shoes.
¡°So many people have so many stories behind their doors,¡± she said.
Some lovely art
¡°Every one of these stories fits into one of these wooden cigar cases, and then I write the names of the property owners in chalk on the front,¡± she added.
Her plan is to put her creations in different neighborhoods around Antwerp.
¡°Finding the figures is sometimes difficult,¡± she said.
¡°There are not a lot of models of people of colour or people in different religious dress and other things. I often need to paint these myself,¡± she added.
