This is not the first time Musk has acknowledged his interest in playing some role in overseeing US federal agencies.
¡°I think it would be great to just have a government efficiency commission that takes a look at these things and just ensures that the taxpayer money, the taxpayers¡¯ hard-earned money, is spent in a good way. And I¡¯d be happy to help out on such a commission,¡± Musk had told Trump during their interview last month.
Why Republicans want to control federal agencies
Taking control of US federal agencies has been the key agenda of 'Project 2025,' an ultra-conservative playbook a group of conservatives have come up with as the plan of action for Trump's second term in office.
Project 2025
Project 2025 was published by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative American think tank, as the blueprint for the 2025 Presidential Transition. Project 2025 has proposed several changes to economic and social policies, and the federal government and its agencies, to make them more conservative.
Republicans have traditionally been hostile towards US federal agencies, and many, including Trump, have repeatedly threatened to get rid of or defund them if elected.
