Minutes After Posting Photo Of Easter Breakfast, Sri Lankan Celebrity Chef & Daughter Killed In Attacks
Sri Lankan celebrity chef Shantha Mayadunne and her daughter Nisanga Mayadunne were among hundreds of people killed on Sunday.
After eight explosions rocked Sri Lanka on April 21, the death toll has increased to 310. Local outfit in the country National Tawheed Jamath is suspected to be behind the blasts. Churches and hotels were attacked that killed a celebrity chef as well as her daughter.
Sri Lankan celebrity chef Shantha Mayadunne and her daughter Nisanga Mayadunne were among hundreds of people killed on Sunday. Minutes before the terror attack rattled three high-end hotels, Nisanga had shared a photo of the family having breakfast at the Shangri-La hotel in Colombo.
One of the relatives acknowledged the tragedy on social media platform Facebook. ¡°They were the most loving family anyone could ask for and I will always be grateful for having them in my life. Rest in peace. We love you. ¡° wrote the family member.
One of Nisanga¡¯s friends, Radha Fonseca told international media that Nisanga was very popular in college. Her mother was well-respected and an inspirational chef for Sri Lankans.
Shantha Mayadunne largely known for her cookbooks, culinary school and popular television show, was a local household name in Sri Lanka.
According to Sri Lanka's Foreign Ministry, at least 17 people from eight countries, including five from India, were among those who were killed in the serial blasts. The deceased included five citizens of Britain, three Danes, two each from China and Turkey and one each from the Netherlands and Portugal, reported CNN.
BBC reported that four Sri Lankan staff members at the Taprobane restaurant in the Cinnamon Grand hotel were also killed in the terror attack.
The bombings even claimed the lives of three children of Anders Holch Povlsen who is Denmark¡¯s wealthiest man. According to The Guardian, he is also the largest landowner in Scotland. Jesper Stubkier, the communications manager for Holch Povlsen¡¯s wholesale clothing business, Bestseller, said: ¡°I can confirm that three children have been killed. We have no further comment and we ask that the family¡¯s privacy is respected at this time.¡±
Eight Indian nationals were also killed in the ghastly attacks.
