It is official! Elon Musk will be part of the upcoming Donald Trump administration, and as he has been posting on X for a while now, the Tesla CEO will be in charge of the government's efficiency. Joining Musk in the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is fellow billionaire entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

"Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies ¡ª essential to the 'Save America' Movement," Trump said in a statement.

What is DOGE
Given the fact that DOGE, which got its name from the meme coin of the same name, is a newly created department, it is unclear if the duo would be part of the administration or come under the Federal Advisory Committee Act.

Earlier, while stating that the Tesla CEO would be part of his administration, Trump had said that the world's richest man would likely not hold any full-time position, given his other commitments.

According to Trump, Musk and Ramaswamy will work from outside the government to offer the White House ¡°advice and guidance¡± and will partner with the Office of Management and Budget to ¡°drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before.¡±

What will DOGE do
Cutting down on government expenditure, bureaucracy, excess regulations, and restructuring federal agencies have been among the promises Trump made on his campaign trail. Musk had said that he could cut at least $2 trillion from the US federal budget.
