US companies invite job applications from 'H-1B applicants only', DOJ takes note
Over the past few days, several US-based social media users have shared screenshots of job postings on platforms like LinkedIn, where it was specifically mentioned that the openings were only for H-1B visa holders and that locals need not apply.
Amid the uncertainties over work visas and the future of work visa holders in the US, the Department of Justice has taken note of American companies inviting job applications only from H-1B visa holders. A social media user shared a screenshot of an email from the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section of the DOJ in response to a submission alleging that US companies were discriminating against Americans and hiring only H-1B holders.
The DOJ-IER is taking complaints about "H-1B only applicants" seriously. Be sure to document everything and archive the job listing link in case recruiters try to cover their tracks by deleting everything. pic.twitter.com/8XbYCm2ZvZ

If you're American and struggling to find work, don't worry because all the jobs are going to foreigners in our own country! #ENDH1B pic.twitter.com/GuNfq5ZXm4
They also pointed out that all such posts were made by Indians, who were trying to hire their countrymen over Americans.
H-1B is a non-immigrant temporary work visa that allows skilled workers like software engineers to work in the United States. The H-1B visa program enables US-based companies to bring foreign workers with specialised skills, mainly in science and technology, to the country to fill openings for which American workers with similar abilities cannot be found.
What is H-1B visa
The H-1B visa is valid for three years and can be extended. Traditionally, India has been the largest recipient of such work visas.
However, many in the US have alleged that American companies are hiring lower-paid foreign workers from countries like India for jobs even when there are qualified US citizens for the same role, as they have to be paid much higher salaries.
Uncertainties over H-1B visa
Recently, the Trump administration decided to end birthright citizenship for children of non-US citizens. Trump signed an executive order by which children born to undocumented immigrants and temporary visa holders, including student, work, business, and tourist visas, became ineligible for US citizenship.
