US presidential election: Donald Trump boards garbage truck, addresses rally dressed as garbage collector
Donald Trump and the Republican Party were on the back foot after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe disparaged the US territory of Puerto Rico as a ¡°floating island of garbage¡± during an election rally. Trump and his campaign distanced themselves from Hinchcliffe.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump seems to have turned incumbent US President Joe Biden's garbage comment in his favour. Trump, on Wednesday, took a garbage truck on his way to address a campaign rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Trump goes garbage collecting
¡°How do you like my garbage truck?¡± Trump said, wearing an orange and yellow safety vest over his white dress shirt and red tie. ¡°This is in honour of Kamala and Joe Biden.¡±
He even addressed the rally dressed as a garbage collector, as the US presidential election battle enters its final phase.

How garbage took over US election campaign
Many observers in the US are describing the garbage comment made by President Biden as the 'October Surprise' of this election.
Trump and the Republican Party were on the back foot after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe disparaged the US territory of Puerto Rico as a ¡°floating island of garbage¡± during an election rally.
Biden inadvertently helps Trump
While Trump and his campaign were desperately trying to distance themselves from Hinchcliffe, they were given a lifeline by Biden, who on Wednesday said, ¡°the only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters. His demonisation of Latinos is unconscionable and it's un-American. It's totally contrary to everything we've done, everything we've been.¡±
Though Biden soon issued a clarification, Trump was quick to cash in on the comment and has managed to turn it in his favour.
Kamala Harris distances herself from Biden
As the controversy blew up, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris also distanced herself from Biden's comment.
¡°I think that, first of all, he clarified his comments. But let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for. You heard my speech last night and continuously throughout my career,¡± Harris said.
¡°I believe that the work that I do is about representing all the people, whether they support me or not. As President of the United States, I will be a president for all Americans, whether you vote for me or not,¡± she added.
