US Presidential Elections 2024: Kamala Harris continues to surge in opinion polls, widens lead over Donald Trump
According to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll published on Thursday, Kamala Harris is continuing to extend her lead against Donald Trump. The latest opinion poll showed that Harris leads Trump 45% to 41%.
US Vice President and Democratic Party nominee for the upcoming presidential election, Kamala Harris, continues to gain momentum as campaigns pick up pace on both sides. Harris, who was far behind her Republican rival Donald Trump in opinion polls when she started her campaign, has made an impressive comeback, not only reducing the gap between the two but also overtaking the former President.
Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump by four points
According to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll published on Thursday, Harris is continuing to extend her lead against Trump. The latest opinion poll showed that Harris leads Republican Donald Trump 45% to 41%.
Harris leads among Hispanics, women, Trump among White men
The 4 percentage point advantage among registered voters is wider than the 1 point lead Harris held over the former president in late July. The Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Harris picking up support among women and Hispanics.
Harris led Trump by 49% to 36%¡ªor 13 percentage points¡ªamong both women voters and Hispanic voters. While Trump led among white voters and men, both by similar margins, his lead among voters without a college degree narrowed to 7 points in the latest survey.
Harris leading or tied with Trump in battleground states
A separate Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll published later on Thursday showed that Harris was either leading or tied with Trump in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, Michigan, and Nevada¡ªthe seven states where the 2020 election was closest.
That poll showed Harris led Trump by 2 percentage points among registered voters across the seven states and was ahead by 1 point¡ªa statistical tie¡ªamong likely voters.
How Harris changed Democrats
This is a massive, welcome change for the Democrats, who until a little over a month ago had given up on the election, with many even openly accepting that a Trump presidency was inevitable as they found Joe Biden too weak to challenge him.
But Biden dropping out of the race and Harris replacing him has invigorated the Democrats like never before in recent history.
Harris candidature drives voting enthusiasm
According to the latest Gallup poll, this has also resulted in an increase in enthusiasm about voting in this year¡¯s election.
In March, 55% of Democrats and Democratic leaners said they were more enthusiastic than usual about voting; now, 78% are.

The Gallup study found that 69% of U.S. adults now say they are ¡°more enthusiastic than usual¡± about voting. Unsurprisingly, Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents are largely driving the surge in enthusiasm nationally.
