Ab de Villiers In Discussion With Cricket South Africa To Come Out Of International Retirement
Ab de Villiers, Cricket South Africa, South Africa
Ab de Villiers is reportedly in talks with Cricket South Africa (CSA), country's cricket board, to come out of retirement and don the Proteas shirt again.
Last month, he had revealed he was open to comeback and was interested in playing T20 World Cup and also ODIs.
"I would love to play, that was never the problem," De Villiers, who had hung up his boots in May 2018, was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.
"I always wanted to play for South Africa, it's a great honour to play international cricket," he added.
Appointment of Graeme Smith and Mark Boucher to key roles in Cricket South Africa is said to be the reason behind de Villiers willingness to go back on his decision and make a return to international crciket.
South Africa are currently playing in three-match ODI series against England, and are leading the series 1-0. The 50-over series will be followed by three-match T20 series and if reports are anything to go by, de Villiers' might finally make he long awaited return to South Africa squad.
The Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis is also in favour of having de Villiers back in the T20 squad after revealing last month that the team management has been having conversations with the legendary batsman for quite some time now.
Last month, Cricket South Africa¡¯s (CSA) director Graeme Smith had expressed that it would be silly not to discuss De Villiers¡¯ willingness to play for the Proteas team. Smith said that discussions on his former team mate¡¯s inclusion are happening, and the door is still open for De Villiers.
de Villiers had tried to come out of retirement ahead of the 2019 World Cup, making himself available for selection. However, CSA selectors felt it was too late.
But it could finally be happening.
