However, De Villiers' heroics with the bat went in vain as his team suffered a six-wicket loss in the game after failing to defend a string total of 188 runs. Batting first, the Spartans were off to a good start as openers Tony de Zorzi (30) and Wiaan Mulder (52) posted a 57-run stand for the first wicket. De Villiers then added 67 runs for the second wicket with Mulder. The duo powered their side to a good total but it eventually didn't prove enough to win the game.
Ben Dunk was the hero of the match for Bay Giants as he played a brilliant knock of 99 runs off just 54 deliveries to almost single-handedly lead his team to a comfortable victory with two balls to spare. Dunk's knock was laced with 10 fours and 4 sixes as he added 78-run stand for the fourth wicket with Ryan ten Doeschate (33) and powered his team to victory.
