Asian Athletics Championships 2025: Indian stars to watch out and all you need to know
The Indian contingent was finalized after the Federation Cup in Kochi, which served as the final selection trial for all athletes. However, top athletes like Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary were granted exemptions.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships 2025, to be held in Gumi, South Korea, from May 27 to 31. India had won 27 medals in the previous edition in 2023 and will look to improve on that tally this year.
The team was finalized after the Federation Cup in Kochi, which served as the final selection trial, though top athletes like Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary were granted exemptions.
Indian stars to watch out for
Notable names in the squad include Praveen Chithravel, Jyothi Yarraji, and Tejaswin Shankar. Chithravel, who equalled his national triple jump record (17.37m), will team up with reigning Asian champion Abdulla Aboobacker. Yarraji will defend her 100m hurdles title, while Animesh Kujur joins the team after breaking the national 200m record.
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will skip the event while Asian Games gold medallists Annu Rani and Tajinderpal Singh Toor will also be absent from the squad. For the javelin throw event, India will be represented by Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh.
