Mr. Perfect's son Curtis Axel still open to WWE return, four years after his last in-ring appearance
Unlike his illustrious father, ¡°Mr. Perfect¡± Curt Hennig, and grandfather, Larry ¡°The Axe¡± Hennig, Axel had failed to break out as a main-eventer, and his most notable achievement was winning the Intercontinental Championship.
Former WWE superstar Curtis Hennig, who wrestled under the ring names Curtis Axel, Joe Hennig, and Michael McGillicutty, has hinted at a comeback, but not as a performer. Axel, last seen in the WWE in February 2020 when he lost to Daniel Bryan on SmackDown, said he is still open to a WWE backstage role.
Curtis Axel eyes WWE comeback
¡°That¡¯s something that¡¯s still on the table. I could go back there and do that and help out. I really like coaching the next up-and-comers. It¡¯s very rewarding to give my insight to them and have these different ideas that we can collaborate on to make the match even better. I really enjoyed that part and just being a part of the creative side,¡± Axel told the Going Ringside podcast.
Third-generation wrestler
The 45-year-old, who was signed by WWE in 2008, was part of FCW and NXT before his main roster call-up in 2013. Unlike his illustrious father, ¡°Mr. Perfect¡± Curt Hennig, and grandfather, Larry ¡°The Axe¡± Hennig, Axel failed to break out as a main-eventer, and his most notable achievement was winning the Intercontinental Championship.
Backstage roel for three months
In 2020, Axel was among the several names released by WWE during the COVID-19 pandemic. He, however, made a brief return to WWE in 2022, where he worked as a producer.
Earlier this month, Axel had claimed that his three-month stint as a producer ended at a time when WWE was embroiled in the hush money scandal involving Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis.
