Danish Kaneria Alleges That He Didn¡¯t Get Support From Government Or PCB
Danish Kaneria is serving a life ban for spot-fixing. The 39-year-old made fresh allegations against the Pakistan Cricket Board PCB and the government saying that he was not offered any help after being banned from the sport. Former pacer Shoaib Akhtar had alleged that there were many who did not want Kaneria to be part of the Pakistan team because of his Hindu faith.
As Pakistan cricket finds itself in the muddle after former pacer Shoaib Akhtar made a shocking revelation that ex-spinner Danish Kaneria was discriminated by his teammates for being Hindu, the subject seems to paving way for more revelations.
Danish Kaneria, who is serving a life ban for spot-fixing, on Saturday made fresh allegations against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the government saying that he was not offered any help after being banned from the sport.
Taking to Twitter, Kaneria said: ¡°It is a fact that I didn¡¯t get any support from Pakistan government or the board after the ban and my acceptance, whereas other players in similar situation play for Pak with support from PCB and are honoured. Any drawn conclusion on this matter would prove Shoaib Akhtar claim as right.¡±
The 39-year-old, however, has made it abundantly clear also that the citizens of Pakistan didn¡¯t ever show any sort of discrimination against him for being a Hindu in a Muslim dominated nation.
¡°The people of Pakistan never discriminated against me on the basis of religion. I am proud that I played for Pakistan with honesty. Now, it is in the hands of my country¡¯s government. Imran Khan and the PCB to decide my fate,¡± he added.
Earlier on Thursday, former pacer Shoaib Akhtar had alleged that there were many who did not want Kaneria to be part of the Pakistan team because of his Hindu faith following which the banned Test leg-spinner stated that there were a ¡®few players¡¯ who targeted him but he was never pressurised to change his religion.
The whole incident has shown Pakistan cricket in bad light, with former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq also weighing in on the controversy.
"The captain who Danish Kaneria played under the most was me and I never felt that there was any such thing in our team, that any player treats another player badly if he is a non-Muslim. I never noticed even a single example of any such thing in our team," Inzamam was quoted as saying by the journalist.
"I am not ready to accept Danish Kaneria's claim that we have such small hearts, that we would do a thing like this and that we didn't accept someone. I think Pakistanis have big hearts and we can accept everyone in pour hearts, he added."
These shocking claims of discrimination, if true, are very sad. There can never be a world where a person is discriminated on the basis of their faith.
