Serena Williams' Latest Comments On Female Athletes Just Shut All Chauvinists Up For Good!

There's no denying the fact that Serena Williams has been one of the best female athletes to walk on the face of the earth. Her dominance in the tennis circuit has been unmatched in our times.

But amid euphoria of being the best at what she does, there are obstacles on the way, even more when you're a woman athlete. For Serena its no different and she feels that had she been a man, she would've been called 'the greatest ever a long time back.'

"I think if I were a man, I would have been in that conversation a long time ago," Serena is quoted as saying in ESPN's 'The Undefeated'.

Serena was at the top of her game in 2016, winning one out of three Grand Slam finals she qualified for and spent 157 weeks at World No 1 before losing the No 1 rank by year-end.

"I think being a woman is just a whole new set of problems from society that you have to deal with, as well as being black, so it's a lot to deal with ¡ª and especially lately. I've been able to speak up for women's rights because I think that gets lost in color, or gets lost in cultures. Women make up so much of this world, and, yeah, if I were a man, I would have 100 percent been considered the greatest ever a long time ago," she goes on to add.

Sports stars like LeBron James, Tiger Woods, Usain Bolt are never called as one of the best 'male athletes' so why such distinction among female athletes? Questions Serena.

Where America's top sportsmen aren't censured for voicing opinions openly about US elections or voilence in the world, Serena doesn't encounter the same freedom in a country dominated by 'white' athletes.

"It's very challenging because sometimes when things are blatantly wrong and blatantly unfair and blatantly racist or sexist, I just have to go and put on a brave smile and not let anyone know how I feel on the inside so they don¡¯t get that satisfaction even though on the inside I would be dying," Williams said.

Serena has often been body-shamed for her dresses during major tennis tournaments has often spoken out in her defence with style.

"There was a time when I didn¡¯t feel incredibly comfortable about my body because I felt like I was too strong. I had to take a second and think, ¡®Who says I¡¯m too strong? This body has enabled me to be the greatest player that I can be. And now my body is in style, so I¡¯m feeling good about it. Like, I¡¯m finally in style! It took awhile to get there. I¡¯m just really thankful for the way I was brought up by my mom and my dad to give me that confidence," Serena said.
