This decade has witnessed some spectacular display of talent of and entertainment in the sporting world. The 2010s has had its fair share of excitement, thrill, emotions, glory and heartbreaks.
Across sports, we have been witness to some enthralling encounters that have added further gloss to this decade. Let's have a look at some of those moments:
India vs Sri Lanka, 2011 World Cup final
After a 28 year wait, India lifted the World Cup on their home soil. In a jam packed Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, MS Dhoni lead India to a 6 six wicket win. It was India's biggest sporting achievement for decades.
In the end it might have seemed an easy chase, but it was far from that. Chasing 275 in a World Cup final, it was always going to be full of nerves. The men in blue lost Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early in the chase, but the middle-order held their nerve along with opener Gautam Gambhir who scored a crucial 97.
The finishing touch though came from Skipper Dhoni whose 91 guided India home and win their second World Cup.
England vs New Zealand, 2019 World Cup final
The wait that had lasted ages finally had its day of redemption - the inventors of cricket had their moment of glory. In an epic final that went to a super over, England held their nerve to win their first 50-over World Cup.
Can a one-day game ever again match the theatre of those closing moments, with Trent Boult taking what would have been a match-winning catch before stepping on the boundary rope, and with Ben Stokes deflecting a throw from the boundary for six overthrows, which should have been five?
The game ended in an unprecedented fashion - England won by virtue of boundary count, but the game was much more than the result. Then to see New Zealand players accept the result with their customary grace, it was a game that will be remembered for centuries.
Liverpool vs Barcelona, UEFA Champions League semifinal
Liverpool didn't seem to have much of a chance heading into the second leg of the Champions League semifinal against Barcelona. After losing the first leg at Barcelona 3-0, the Reds needed 4-0 victory to sneak into the final.
Still, manager Jurgen Klopp instructed his players to play with everything they had, to "fail in the most beautiful way" even if winning felt out of grasp.
They would do better than that. Thanks to a pair of goals each from Georginio Wijnaldum and Divock Origi, Liverpool pulled off the stunning comeback and would go on to defeat Tottenham in the final to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time since 2005
Manchester City vs Queens Park Rangers, English Premier League (2012)
With the last kick of the season, Aguero scores past QPR to win the 2011 ¨C 2012 Barclays Premier League for Manchester City and snatch it from United who had already finished their final game in arguably the most competitive Premier League season in years. (May 13th, 2012)
England vs Iceland (UEFA EURO 2016)
One of the darkest days in the history of the England national team, but the brightest for the underdogs of Iceland. Few expected anything other than a straightforward win for Roy Hodgson¡¯s side in the last 16 of Euro 2016, particularly when Wayne Rooney drew first blood inside four minutes.
Iceland were soon level through Ragnar Sigurdsson, though, and what followed was England¡¯s most ignominious episode since a 1-0 defeat by the United States at the 1950 World Cup. The underdogs edged ahead in the 18th minute and were the better team thereafter, outplaying, outhinking and outfighting their more celebrated counterparts to deservedly book a place in the quarter-finals.
