WhatsApp Won¡¯t Run On Old Android, iOS and Windows Phone Devices After 2016
Everyone¡¯s favourite chatting and messaging app, WhatsApp, has some bad news for users of old Android, iOS and Windows Phone smartphones.
If you ever needed a legitimate reason to upgrade to a brand new smartphone, it doesn¡¯t get any better than this (for now), because WhatsApp is officially ending support for older smartphones by the end of 2016.
Phones based on the following operating systems won¡¯t support WhatsApp at the end of this month:
-
Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
-
Windows Phone 7
-
iPhone 3GS / iOS 6
Originally, WhatsApp wanted to pull the plug on BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, and Nokia Symbian S60 versions of its app as well, but it¡¯s extending support for older Blackberry and Nokia Symbian phones by an additional six months till end of June 2017.
Why is WhatsApp ending support for these older smartphones based on Android, iOS, Windows Phone (and later Blackberry OS, Nokia Symbian S60)? Because WhatsApp believes ¡°these mobile devices don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future.¡±
OK then... y'all know what to do!
