Women Will Soon Face Less Harassment On Tinder, By Blocking Men From Sending The First Message
The new feature being developed is aimed at giving women a little more control over conversations on the app.
Valentine¡¯s Day may have just gotten a bunch of people together for the first time, but Tinder is currently more focused on keeping people away from you. Particularly if you¡¯re a woman, and guys won¡¯t stop harassing you.
The company says it¡¯s developing a new feature that should create a better experience for women on their dating app. The feature will let women decide whether they want to prevent men from sending the first message after a match.
Mandy Ginsberg, CEO of the corporation Match Group that owns Tinder, says women often don¡¯t want the pressure of kicking off a conversation themselves. ¡°But if they want it, that¡¯s great,¡± she told Market Watch.
The thing is, Tinder feels that the new feature could help women gain a little more semblance of control over the conversation. If they¡¯re fine with making first contact, the feature could prevent inappropriate advances towards these women.
How well that will work in practice is another story, considering that since both parties need to swipe right to match anyway, we¡¯re likely already only talking to people we¡¯re interested in.
