Instead Of Buying This Year's iPhones, For Same Amount You Can Get A Bike Or Foreign Vacation
The two new premium iPhones are now finally up for pre-order, and expected to ship later this month. As expected, they have a sky high price tag, but we¡¯re still always taken aback by the sheer audacity of Apple¡¯s prices. These two are no exception.

The iPhone XS can run you between Rs 99,900 to Rs 1,34,900, depending on the storage variant you choose, while the iPhone XS Max will cost you between Rs 1,09,900 to Rs 1,44,900. Think about that for a second. With the iPhone X last year, the 64GB version was priced at Rs 89,000, with the 256GB version costing buyers Rs 1 lakh.
This time around, every single version of the new generation of iPhone is Rs 1 lakh or over. That¡¯s insane.
In just a year, Apple has managed to make a phone so ridiculously expensive, ¡°expected¡±. You might¡¯ve been taken aback by the new price tags, but were you really surprised? After all, that was the trend Apple has been setting with its pricing right?
So the question you need to ask yourself then is, do you really need even the cheapest device, the 64GB iPhone XS? i mean there are so many other things you can splurge on.
- How about a Bajaj Avenger instead for Rs 95,900?
- Or maybe you need a 55-inch 4K LED Smart TV from Samsung, also at around the same price?
- Maybe you¡¯ve been feeling like taking a trip to Sri Lanka, which should cost you about Rs 1 lakh, including air fare, accommodation, local commuting, and food.
- Or perhaps you¡¯d just like to go crazy and buy 10 bottle of Lagavulin¡¯s 10-year-old Scotch for the price of the 64GB iPhone XS.
Still too rich for your taste? Well that's because those are all arguably luxury spends up there. So how about some more basic expenditure to consider?
-The 512GB iPhone XS Max costs Rs 1,44,900. That works out to about 80 percent of the yearly food budget for a middle class family in India. A family of four no less, and that might be a conservative estimate.
- Close to Rs 1.5 lakh, that¡¯s the average rent of a 1BHK in some parts of Mumbai for six months. Or instead maybe just the deposit you had to put down when you moved in.
- You could buy the most expensive iPhone XS Max, or you could hand that money to a friend or relative in need of open heart surgery, because that¡¯s the minimum amount you can expect to pay.
And yet, at least some people will happily spend their hard-earned cash on Apple¡¯s flagships, if last year was any indication. I mean, if you're really into Apple, there are way better deals out there.
