Samsung Gear S3 Smartwatch Priced At Rs 28,500, Is Waterproof & Runs On Tizen OS
The Samsung Gear S3 has a rotating dial, is water and dust resistant, offers up to 4 days of battery backup, integrates a dedicated app store and built-in speaker and GPS connectivity, making it a compelling smartwatch to consider.
After a disastrous 2016, plagued by the explosive Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, Samsung¡¯s launched its first product of 2017 earlier today -- the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch. Abandoning Android Wear, it¡¯s Samsung¡¯s first smartwatch running on its own Tizen OS -- the first of its kind.
The Samsung Gear S3 has a rotating dial, is water and dust resistant, offers up to 4 days of battery backup, integrates a dedicated app store and built-in speaker and GPS connectivity, making it a compelling smartwatch to consider if you indeed are looking for one.
Showcased first at IFA 2016 expo in Berlin last September, the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch is available in two versions -- Classic and Frontier. The Samsung Gear S3 Classic sports a minimalist, conservative look, while the Gear S3 Frontier is slight more swankier, sporting a bolder watchface and several customizations. The Gear S3 Frontier weighs 62g compared to the Gear S3 Classic¡¯s 57g -- a difference of just 5g, which shouldn¡¯t all that much on the wrist.
Both the Classic and Frontier Samsung Gear S3 sport a similar 1.3-inch Super AMOLED circular display with Corning Gorilla Glass coating for scratch resistance. Both watches support 380mAh battery capacity and wireless charging, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Only the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier supports superior LTE connectivity with a SIM card slot. So the Samsung Gear S3 doesn¡¯t aim to be a smartphone companion device, it actually tries to carve out its own independent existence on your wrist -- can¡¯t say that about too many smartwatches, to be honest.
Both the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Classic versions are IP68 water and dust resistant, so it¡¯s resistant to occasional water splashes and dust storms, but nothing too heavy duty -- these are still pretty, constantly connected style statements on your wrist watch that needs constant protection.
For the first time ever on a smartwatch, the Samsung Knox Tizen Wearable SDK will be available to third-parties, enabling management capabilities and the development of customized applications for Samsung¡¯s wearable ecosystem -- which will be more secure, Samsung claims.
