Google has made passkeys the default option for personal Google Accounts. With passkeys, signing into Google accounts will become easier while improving device security.
Now, users will be prompted to create and use passkeys for their Google accounts when they try to sign in. The option to "skip password when possible" would be enabled by default in Google Account settings.
What is the point of passkeys?
Passkeys aren't really tricky. Users can depend on methods like fingerprint, face scan, or PIN that offers a 40% faster sign-in experience compared to traditional passwords, Google claims.
By employing sophisticated cryptography, passkeys add an extra layer of security to your Google account. Currently, passkeys are available for apps like YouTube, Search, and Maps.
