Apple CEO Tim Cook Thinks Learning To Code Is More Important Than English As a Second Language
The Apple CEO believes programming should be a part of basic school curriculum all over the world.
The world¡¯s a big place, and knowing how to converse in English will usually get you a lot farther than just your native language.
But as beneficial as it may be, not everyone seems to think it¡¯s the most important second language you could learn.
In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook believes that it¡¯s more important to learn a coding language than it is to learn how to speak English.
¡°If I were a French student and I were 10 years old, I think it would be more important for me to learn coding than English,¡± Cook told French news agency Konbini while visiting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
¡°This is a language that you can [use to] express yourself to 7 billion people in the world,¡± Cook added. He even said he believes coding should be ¡°required in every public school in the world¡±, instead of looked at as a specialization skill.
¡°It¡¯s not just for the computer scientists. It¡¯s for all of us.¡±
In fact, there may actually be some truth to Cook¡¯s statements. The technology industry is booming, with companies requiring software engineers for apps, smartphones, computer programs, and more. Studies even show that more than a third of high-salaried jobs require some form of programming expertise.
