Apple Forced To Make Drastic Cuts To Vision Pro Headset Production Plans: Report
With the Vision Pro, it seems like a lot of work is still cut out for the company, be it in terms of manufacturing or software development.
Apple has made "drastic cuts" to its Vision Pro headset production plans, a report claims. Before we jump the gun and assume that nobody wants to buy the Apple Vision Pro headset, an FT report claims that this change in pace is not caused by how expensive it is, but instead owing to its design.
"The complexity of the headset design and difficulties in production" have reportedly impacted hardware production targets of the Vision Pro headset. Usually, Apple products become available instantly after the announcement, but this time was different.

Apple's plans take a hit
About a month ago, Apple revealed plans to make the headset available to the public "early next year" at its yearly WWDC conference. Priced at $3,499, the headset is among Apple's most expensive products.
With the Vision Pro, it seems like a lot of work is still cut out for the company, be it in terms of manufacturing or software development. FT reports that manufacturing issues with the Vision Pro's micro-OLED displays have caused these cuts.

The displays are reportedly being manufactured by Sony and TSMC. The production of this component is so fresh that often, it leads to "bad yields," as Tom's Hardware put it.

The initial sales target for Apple Vision Pro was set at one million units. But according to the report, Apple is now looking to ship a modest 400,000 units in 2024.
Secondary suppliers who are making components for Apple Vision Pro have been given smaller orders, enough to manufacture only 130,000 to 150,000 units in the first year.

One company, a Chinese IT products manufacturer called Luxshare, has been reportedly investing in a plant that could manufacture 18 million units per year in the future. Apple is also expected to reveal its more affordable second-generation headset in the near-future.
