Apple To Develop iPhone 17 In India, Locally Made iPhones Could Go Up To 25%
Currently, at least 14% of global iPhone units that are shipped globally, including the iPhone 15, are made in India. By 2024, this number is expected to go to up to between 20-25%, according to the analyst.
Apple has big plans for India! According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF Securities International and a well-known Apple tipster, the company wants to increase the proportion of locally made iPhones in India.
When is Apple amplifying production in India?
In a new blog post, the analyst claims that Apple is working on developing iPhone 17, that should launch globally in 2025, in India in the second half of next year. At the same time, Apple's production in two regions of China is expected to fall sharply in 2024.
Writing on Medium, Kuo stated that Apple assembler Foxconn that currently owns 80% of all production lines for iPhones in India, will scale down its production in China next year by 45% and 85% in Zhengzhou and Taiyuan respectively.

The iPhone 17 will the first to be developed outside of China, Kuo added. Apple will begin the new product introduction (NPI) process for the iPhone 17 in India in the second half of 2024. To minimise risks associated with design, the standard iPhone 17 model would be developed outside of China, and the phone should make its global debut in the second half of 2025.
Why is Apple moving to India?
Just last week, Taiwan's Wistron sold its manufacturing plant to Tata Electronics for $125 million. This makes Tata the first Indian company to assemble Apple's iPhone in the country.

This way, Kuo hopes that the Apple will develop a closer relationship with the government of India and that this new development is "critical" to the company's growth over the next 10 years. Now, Tata has joined Pegatron and Foxconn in producing iPhones in India.
