At Rs 133 Crore, Bugatti 'La Voiture Noire' Is Now The World's Most Expensive Car And It Is Already Sold Out
Bugatti&rsquos &ldquoThe Black Car&rdquo unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The car is a one off with a complete carbon fibre built six exhaust pipes 1500 hp and a Bugatti badge. The whereabouts of the car are still one of the biggest mysteries of the world of automobile to date.
For a minute, assume you have no limit on your cash reserves and you can buy anything you put your finger on. How much, you believe, will you pay for a car? Now before you answer that, keep in mind that the car we're talking about here is a one off, with a complete carbon fibre built, six exhaust pipes, 1500 hp and a Bugatti badge.
All this and more has taken the shape of the ¡°La Voiture Noire¡±, Bugatti¡¯s latest unveil at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. And we can snap back to reality now because neither the car is on sale nor would we have been able to buy it (at least the 99.9 percent of the lot). Why? Because Bugatti¡¯s ¡°The Black Car¡± costs a mind blowing 11 million euros before tax and 16.7 million euros with taxes. That is equivalent to 133 crore in Indian Rupees.

Now let us put things into perspective first before going into the details of the car. The Bugatti Chiron 2018 model costs USD 3 million. A step up version with the name of Bugatti Divo costs USD 5.8 million and was being termed as the most agile and dynamic car ever built by the company during its launch last year. So why does the La Voiture Noire double the price tag to USD 12 million?
First, the car has an interesting piece of history behind it. As per Bugatti, the La Voiture Noire pays homage to the company¡¯s Type 57 SC Atlantic. Just four of these were made between 1936 and 1938, each unit personalised for its customers. The second one was used by Jean Bugatti himself, later believed to be passed on to Bugatti racer Robert Benoist and then some Bugatti engineers. The car then got lost, probably in the efforts to save it from the ongoing German war at the time. The whereabouts of the car are still one of the biggest mysteries of the world of automobile to date.

That being said, the world¡¯s most expensive car is not so different from the Bugatti Chiron under the hood. It uses the same 8-litre W16 quad-turbo engine capable of producing up to 1500 horsepower. It also comes with the same DSG gearbox with the 4 wheel drive. The one-of-its-kind car though is longer and sleeker than the regular Chiron.
More than a performer, the car is a work of art. Bugatti says that every part in the Bugatti La Voiture Noire has been handcrafted to give the carbon fibre body an intense black gloss. Bugatti has also done away with any ¡°irritating¡± lines in the vehicle to interrupt the visual flow, making it a seamless integration of the different components like the bumper and the body.

Honestly, with a price tag that high, it better be seamless. But get this, the jaw dropping cost of the vehicle has not proved to be a even a minor speed bump in its sale. The car is already sold to a ¡°Bugatti enthusiast¡± as per the company. Some reports identify the buyer as Ferdinand Piech, grandson of Porsche's founder. Former chief executive of Volkswagen, parent group of Bugatti, Piech has time and again backed some of the group's most expensive development projects.

The unique identity, the attached legacy of 110 years, the tag of a 'tribute' and the love for a make is completely understandable and is nothing new for the world. And a look at the La Voiture Noire shows that the car is much more than just a piece of machinery doing outstanding numbers on the road. It is more of a piece of art that can absolutely mesmerise anyone in its vicinity. But even after keeping all that in mind, do you think that a price tag that high is justified for a car?
