Brazil Could Fine Apple Again For Missing Charger Inside iPhone 13 Box
For second year in a row, Apple could be slapped with a fine in Brazil for not providing chargers with iPhones with the new iPhone 13 launch
Looks like Apple will face another fine in Brazil for not providing a charger with the new iPhone 13 series. When the iPhone 12 series was revealed, Brazil slapped a $1.9 million fine on Apple for not including a charger in the box. After that, Apple had to give chargers to anyone requesting it.
Brazil's Procon-SP regulator will probably do the same thing now. Under Brazilian law, $1.9 million is the maximum fine which may be levied. In addition, the fine cannot be imposed again on the same company within six months of the first one.
Another year, another fine for Apple
Looks like Apple will have to pay $1.9 million again this year for its iPhone 13 series. A local publication TechTudo reported the same while quoting Procon-SP's executive director Fernando Capez, who said that most costumers assume that they would receive a charger with a new phone.
The Apple website mentions that there would be no charger in the box for the new iPhone series. But Brazilian authorities are not convinced. They believe such information needs to be advertised more aggressively rather than being hidden in fineprint.

Apple, on the other hand, has claimed on multiple occasions that its decision to not ship iPhones with chargers is based on how the company perceives environmental damage. The move is also based on the assumption that majority of current iPhone buyers have previously owned an iPhone.
