Elon Musk Says Tesla Coming To India 'Soon,' Adds Twitter Will Abide By Local Laws

Tech mogul Elon Musk recently met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the US. The EV-maker's CEO said that Modi urged Musk to make a "significant investment in India," adding that an announcement was on the cards soon, ANI reported.
Tesla's future in India
Musk reportedly highlighted India's strong potential for a future in sustainable energy including solar power, electric vehicles and more. He also showed interest in bringing SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service to India.
"[Modi] is pushing us to make significant investments in India, which is something we intend to do," Musk told ANI. "I am confident that Tesla will be in India and will do so as soon as humanly possible," Musk added. He also said that he intends to visit India next year. After the meeting, Modi tweeted the following - "Great meeting you, Elon Musk. We had multifaceted conversations on issues ranging from energy to spirituality."

Last month, Tesla executives visited India and held talks with local ministers to assess the potential of setting up a manufacturing base for vehicles and batteries in India.
Twitter and Indian laws
At the same meeting, Elon Musk also referred to the choices Twitter makes in India. Recently, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey alleged that the government threatened to shut down Twitter if the company refused to follow its orders.
"The best we can do is to follow the laws in any given country," Musk said, while adding that it was impossible for the social media giant "to do more than that."

He added that governments around the world have different regulations for social media companies, and that Twitter "will do [its] best to provide the freest speech that is possible under the law."
