Apple has today announced it's recalling its 15-inch MacBook Pro models with Retina display from 2015.
They're replacing the devices after it seems a lot of them are overheating and might possibly even burst into flames. Anyone remember the Galaxy Note 7?
The device in question was sold between September 2015 and February 2017. Apparently, there's something wrong with the batteries on these models, and they pose a serious fire hazard.
Customers are therefore being asked to stop using the affected MacBook Pros units and are being instructed on how they can get the batteries replaced. The company says that units in need of replacement can be identified by entering its serial number in the recall program page here.
Again, this only affects the 2015 MacBook Pro, and not the later models released in 2016 and later. To get your battery replaced, just head down to an Apple authorized service center, an Apple retail store, or contact customer support to send it in remotely.
Apple warns that the battery replacement will take place at an Apple Repair Center in each case, and could take one or two weeks to complete. It will be free of charge of course, but you should probably be prepared for further delays if everyone is rushing for a replacement.
This move follows soon after a video emerged on Twitter and Reddit earlier this year, of a MacBook Pro catching fire and smoking.
