The photo-sharing app announced today that even though it has always prohibited branded posts by influencers that promote vaping, tobacco consumption, but now it intends to enforce these rules a little bit more strictly. It has also banned the promotion of weapons by influencers.
Instagram said in its official statement, "Branded content that promotes goods such as vaping, tobacco products and weapons will not be allowed," Instagram said in a post on Wednesday. "Our advertising policies have long prohibited the advertisement of these products, and we will begin enforcement on this in the coming weeks."
The banning of promotion of vaping by influencers isn¡¯t surprising, considering vaping being banned in several states in the US, with it claiming so many lives along with causing severe health issues.
Along with this update, Instagram also revealed a new platform called Brand Collabs Manager with a selected bunch of influencers, in the beginning, to give them insights and engagement data for their posts. Influencers can now share account data and metrics with potential brands for promotions.
This platform was something that was being expected by influencers with the social media giant hiding likes to prevent teens from getting depressed by not getting desired likes and stop the promotion of this unhealthy behaviour.
This week, With a view to combat bullying on its platform, Instagram has now introduced a new feature that analyses a comment being sent by a follower. If it detects that the comment could in any way harm the sentiments of a user or seems like bullying, Instagram will warn the user to rethink or rephrase the sentence.
