Apple iPhone 12 May Not Include Charger In The Box, Claims Early Rumour

Apple has been notorious for removing things that people love, from its devices. The removal of headphone jack surely broke the heart of many.

But what¡¯s worse is that other phone makers try to imitate Apple and join the bandwagon to be ¡®at par¡¯ with the richest tech company in the world.

And now a report by Macrumours reveals that Apple could soon be letting go of earphones and a charging adapter from its iPhone 12 box.

This is according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and as we know, Kuo is rarely wrong about these things. Kuo states that Apple is bringing a new 20W power adapter as an optional accessory while ending the production of the existing 5W and 18W power adapters.

While the loss of EarPods is fine (and most Android players have already been doing this) the loss of a charging brick is sure to sting as now people will be forced to purchase an Apple power brick while purchasing the device (and we all know these accessories, just like the phone, do not come cheap.)

According to Kuo, the iPhone 12 production cost is considerably higher than previous iPhone models due to the fact that these phones will be bringing 5G support.

Apple wishes to sell the iPhone 12¡¯s at the same price as iPhone 11¡¯s last year, so eliminating the charging brick and headphones from the box could help in making ends meet. It would, however, include a Lightning to USB-C cable.

Apple's aim to reduce e-waste

We know Apple as this tech company that tries to make even its mistakes and wrongdoings sound cool. In 2016, when it dropped the headphone jack from the iPhone 7¡¯s, Apple hid the negativity surrounding the move, calling it ¡®courageous¡¯, and that it was trying to deliver a better experience to its customers (obviously by charging them more for proprietary tech).

Kuo believes that with this move too, Apple will make it sound fancier by touting that this step is being taken to safeguard the environment from e-waste.

This somewhat makes sense as people who buy iPhones, might have a drawer full of power bricks that they get with each of their previous purchases. Some don¡¯t use it entirely going for faster-charging third-party offerings.

With Apple selling millions of iPhones every year, eliminating power bricks from boxes could help in reducing the accumulation of e-waste, but what about people buying their first iPhones or people who didn¡¯t own a smartphone before? Forcing them to shell out extra money just so that they can power their device is just mean.
