Satya Nadella's Microsoft To Give Rs 1.12 Lakh As Pandemic Bonus To All Employees

Microsoft is offering its employees $1,500 as a pandemic bonus for the challenging fiscal year 2020 as a token of appreciation to everyone who managed to pull through a difficult year across the company.

Reported first by the Verge, who got access to an internal memo announcing this, Microsoft is offering this bonus to all the staff below corporate vice president level, on or before March 31, 2021. Moreover, it also included part-time workers as well as those who were getting paid on an hourly basis.

The announcement was also made by Microsoft¡¯s chief people officer, Kathleen Hogan and the bonus will be given to not just its employees in the US but also those across the world. Microsoft today has a total of 175,508 employees around the world.

Microsoft spokesperson, in a conversation with Business Insider, said in a statement, "As a symbol of our appreciation for coming together as One Microsoft during a uniquely challenging year, we are proud to recognize our employees with a one-time monetary gift."

It is however, important to note that employees of Microsoft subsidiaries such as LinkedIn, GitHub and ZeniMax aren¡¯t eligible for this bonus. The report highlighted that the gift is for an amount of $200 million or less than two days¡¯s worth of profit for Microsoft.

Microsoft isn¡¯t the only company however who took care of its employees during the pandemic. Facebook too offered $1,000 to each of its employees whereas Amazon offered $300 to each of its frontline employees as a holiday bonus. Even Walmart offered associates $388 million in bonuses in December for their "sustained commitment to customers during the pandemic."

While offices in the US have started to open little by little, Microsoft has announced that it¡¯s pushing the dates of reopening its offices till September. It has announced plans to adopt a six-stage hybrid workplace strategy to offer its employees more flexibility while making sure they¡¯re not overwhelmed by coming to work all of a sudden, every day.
