Satya Nadella Is Against Permanent Work From Home, Says It's Not Good For Employees Health
Satya Nadella revealed how he misses physical meetings as opposed to video conferencing.
COVID-19 has truly paused our world. The entire world is working from home, kids are studying from home and travel across the world is shut.
It is certain that unless COVID-19 is completely wiped off from our planet, our lives would never go back to normal. Especially related to working in offices.
A few weeks back, we saw several tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Facebook extend the work-from-home till the end of this year, to prevent the safety of employees amidst the pandemic. However, Satya Nadella recently highlighted the negative effects of working from home.
Nadella in a conversation with the New York Times, stated how he misses physical meetings as opposed to video conferencing, "What I miss is when you walk into a physical meeting, you are talking to the person that is next to you, you're able to connect with them for the two minutes before and after."
Satya Nadella on work from home
According to Nadella, if work from home became a permanent norm, it would just be replacing one dogma with another dogma.
He stated, emphasising on the effects on mental health and stress that it is resulting in, stating, "What does burnout look like? What does mental health look like? What does that connectivity and the community building look like?. One of the things I feel is, hey, maybe we are burning some of the social capital we built up in this phase where we are all working remote. What's the measure for that?"
These opinions come right after microblogging platform Twitter last week announced that it would allow its employees to work from home even post COVID-19. Only people from maintenance staff and other roles that require physical presence would be required to be present at work.
Twitter also announced that they¡¯re going to cancel all in-person events for the rest of the year, while relook at plans for 2021. Twitter has also upped its allowance for work from home supplies to $1000 for all of its staff.
