Nokia 7.2 Is Finally Here, But Should You Really Care?

Yesterday, Nokia at IFA in Berlin revealed a bunch of cool phones.

While everyone went downright bonkers for a flip feature phone by Nokia -- the Nokia 2720, the phone that really caught my eye was the Nokia 7.2, with a circular triple-camera setup at the back and emerald green colour, this phone is one good looker.

Nokia is still sticking with the notch on the Nokia 7.2, however, unlike last year's ugly chin and notch, this year's notch is a lot more discreet (using the teardrop approach like the OnePlus 7). The 6.3-inch FHD+ screen is still an IPS LCD panel though.

Nokia 7.2 Design

Continuing the glass-sandwich design from its predecessor, Nokia 7.2 tries to look different with a circular camera bump (while being reminiscent to the Lumia 1020). The overall design of the phone is pretty minimalistic. The edges are curvy and made entirely out of aluminium in a matte finish that adds a nice a contrast to the otherwise glossy back.

When you have a look under the hood, the phone isn't carrying anything amazing. We're looking at Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 512 GPU. The device is also available in 4GB/6GB RAM and 64/128GB storage variants. Users can further expand storage using a microSD card up to 512GB. Powering the device is a 3500mAh battery.

The circular camera bump on the back of Nokia 7.2 holds a triple camera setup. The primary shooter is a 48-megapixel sensor with PDAF, a second 13mm 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter and a 5-megapixel depth sensor for capturing perfect bokeh. For selfies, the front gets a whopping 20-megapixel shooter to get crispy images.

Nokia 7.2: Should You Really Care?

Nokia 7.2 was launched in Europe for a price tag of EUR 299 (Rs 23,647) for the 4GB/64GB variant and EUR 349 (Rs 27,600) for the 6GB/128GB variant. While these were tempting prices for the European market, if it were to come at similar pricing in India, it won't stand a chance as the Indian market has way better smartphones in this price point like Redmi's K20 series by Xiaomi that are not only better with features, but also snappier in performance. Heck, the K20 Pro has a flagship-grade Snapdragon 855 powering the device that's loads better than the Snapdragon 660.

Nokia's pricing will be key in setting this smartphone's future in India.
