People Sent 100 Billion Messages Using WhatsApp On New Year's Eve, Creating A New World Record
Out of the 100 billion messages that were shared globally, 20 billion were shared by users in India alone. WhatsApp¡¯s official press release revealed that out of all the messages sent, 12 billion of them were images alone. The data is with respect to 24 hours until midnight of 31st December PT or Pacific Time.
WhatsApp has to be the one app that has completely changed the way we communicate in the past decade. This one app is now found on every smartphone owned in this county, and from our parents to grandparents -- everyone prefers communicating using WhatsApp.
So it isn¡¯t surprising that WhatsApp users exchanged over 100 billion messages on New Year¡¯s Eve, making a new world record.
While the response received by WhatsApp is overwhelming, it isn¡¯t surprising, considering the number of lives it has made convenient over the years.
Facebook-acquired WhatsApp has managed to stay ahead of the curve amidst cut-throat competition between messenger apps due to reliability, user-base and the set of features that it offers. And WhatsApp keeps on striving to improve the messaging experience of its users.
Recently, leaks have been hinting at a self-destructing message feature that would work somewhat like Snapchat -- a message sent will disappear after some time, leaving no trace or records. However, this feature will only be made available on group chats and not personal chats.
Popular WhatsApp leakster WABetaInfo recently spotted some new information pertaining to this much-awaited feature on the latest beta build no. 2.19.348. However, WhatsApp gives you a little more control with this feature where one can easily pick a time-frame they want a message to disappear ---- ranging from a minute to a whole year.
