WhatsApp Will Stop Working On Windows Phones, Some Androids And iPhones From Dec 31 Onwards
WhatsApp is going to cease support for Windows Phone And Some iOS and Android devices. Is your phone making the cut?
Microsoft today revealed that it will cease support for devices running Windows Phone OS, thus marking the end for the operating system loved by many.
And WhatsApp too is pulling its support from this operating system. WhatsApp will stop working on Windows Phone from December 31, 2019.
Recently, WhatsApp had also revealed that it will be ceasing support to iOS devices or iPhones running on iOS 8. Now the minimum iOS version to run WhatsApp is iOS 9.0 or higher.
However in case you were wondering that Android is safe from this snap, you¡¯re in for some disappointment. Android phones running Android 2.3.7 too will cease to be supported by WhatsApp. What¡¯s more, new users using this OS won¡¯t even get to re-login or re-verify their accounts.
So if you're using a dated iOS or Android smartphone, you have time till February 1, 2020 to get it updated or WhatsApp would cease to function on the aforementioned device.
You can however surely try checking your devices if they¡¯re eligible for an update before throwing the device in the bin and buying a new phone.
If you¡¯re on Android, updating the operating system can get complicated (due to so many OEMs and their support for the updated software). Still you can go to System Settings > About Phone > Check For Update, to be sure if your device has any updates pending.
However, If you're on iOS, just go to Settings > General Settings > Software Update and update to the latest available OS to not get disconnected from WhatsApp while also staying secure on the web.
