Samsung TV Remotes To Be Solar-Powered To Prevent 99 Million Waste Batteries
The TV remote will be fitted with a thin solar panel on top that will recharge not just from the sunlight but also artificial lights that are already in the room.
While television sets today are getting sharper than ever with 8K, OLED panels offering wide colour contrasts and sleek bezel-less designs, one thing most TV makers still haven¡¯t been able to upgrade is the remote control.
Most TV remotes still ship with Triple-A batteries, ones that for some reason go out of power sooner than anticipated. Which either result in you slapping the remote till it starts working or looking for other remotes that have compatible batteries.
However, it looks like this painful ordeal might soon come to an end with Samsung¡¯s TVs as the South Korean brand has announced that it will soon be including solar-powered remote controllers with the TVs eliminating the need for replacing batteries forever.
The TV remote will be fitted with a thin solar panel on top that will recharge not just from the sunlight but also artificial lights that are already in the room. Moreover, you also have the option of plugging in the remote for charging it via a cable too, should you feel like.
Samsung is taking this groundbreaking step as a part of its ¡®Going Green¡¯ scheme where it is bringing into play newer ways to reduce the impact of e-waste on the environment. According to Samsung, this will help prevent waste of 99 million batteries over a span of seven years. Also, these remotes will be made using plastic from recycled bottles.
The company has also announced that it will be expanding its eco-packaging scheme to more of its TVs launched in 2021 which will see a reduction in text and images on the packaging, reducing the use of oil-based ink that is known to harm the environment.
