WhatsApp Will Allow You To Move Chats Between iPhone And Android: Here's How

Popular WhatsApp leakster WABetaInfo hints that the popular messaging app could soon bring in support for transferring chats from Android to iOS and vice versa as a part of its broader multi-device support that WhatsApp has been working on for quite some time.

As of now, people switching from iOS to Android and vice versa rely on cumbersome workarounds to shift their WhatsApp chat data, and in most cases, they don¡¯t even work. The fallback is then to rely on a previous backup of WhatsApp chat which means you miss out on a few hours or a day's worth of messages from being synced perfectly.

However, all this might change soon with the rolling of WhatsApp¡¯s multi-device support. According to the leakster, the reason it is taking so long for WhatsApp messaging app to bring this feature to the world is that several things in the app have been rewritten in order to be compatible with multiple devices.

This feature will enable users (even on WhatsApp Web) to use text with people without the need for an active internet connection on the smartphone -- something that we see with the current version of WhatsApp Web.

Transfer WhatsApp chats between iOS and Android

According to the leaks, in order to take the multi-device WhatsApp feature to the next level, the app will also allow migration of chats from Android to iOS and vice versa. WABetaInfo has shared a screenshot of WhatsApp on iOS where it shows two phones -- a notched-screen phone resembling an iPhone and a punch-hole camera screen device resembling Android.

The screenshot states, ¡°You need to update your version of WhatsApp to transfer chat history.¡± According to WABetainfo, a user will need to link his account with WhatsApp app on the device to enable the transfer of chats from iOS to Android or vice versa. Moreover, he further highlights that WhatsApp apps will have to be on the latest version to enable the successful transfer of chats.

When is this WhatsApp chat transfer feature coming?

Despite the rather tempting screenshot, there is no hints or stipulated timeline for this feature to be rolled out. As always, despite WABetaInfo¡¯s reputation, take this with a grain of salt as this is merely a leak of a beta WhatsApp is working on and chances are we might not get to see this feature entirely.
