YouTube Shorts Is The Latest Short Video Experience
YouTube has rolled out YouTube Shorts -- a video platform that shows 15-second short videos like TikTok.
When TikTok got banned in India, hell broke loose for the video-sharing platform as well as the people on them. Some creators had a strong fan-following that had turned to ashes with the app no longer functional in India.
Soon after this ban, we saw so many app developers unveiling TikTok clone apps, including social media giant Facebook who entered the market with a TikTok clone app dubbed Reels, and it has been catching up really well. However, now Google¡¯s YouTube has gone ahead and launched another TikTok clone to lure content creators.
YouTube has rolled out YouTube Shorts -- a video platform that shows 15-second short videos like TikTok. It in fact has all the features TikTok did, including effects to change speed, timer, countdown as well as a multi-segment camera feature that allows users to fuse multiple videos seamlessly. Like TikTok and Reels, YT Short boasts of a wide library of audio that content creators can add to their videos.
This is definitely not the first time we¡¯re hearing about this short-video app. We heard about this app for the first time this year in April.
YouTube, while announcing the app in India said in a statement, ¡°We¡¯re excited to announce that we are building YouTube Shorts, a new short-form video experience right on YouTube for creators and artists who want to shoot short, catchy videos using nothing but their mobile phones. Over the next few days in India, we¡¯re launching an early beta of Shorts with a handful of new creation tools to test out.¡±
They added, ¡°This is an early version of the product, but we're releasing it now to bring you ¡ª our global community of users, creators and artists ¡ª on our journey with us as we build and improve Shorts. We¡¯ll continue to add more features and expand to more countries in the coming months as we learn from you and listen to your feedback.¡±
With TikTok out of the picture, both leaders -- Facebook and YouTube have some strong offerings on the table to lure content creators on their platform.
With Facebook¡¯s recent tie-ups with Indian record labels, it has the strongest library of Bollywood tracks. On the other hand, YouTube is clearly a leader in online video and their solid monetisation structure and vast user base is unprecedented. It'll be interesting to see how the two companies compete.
