This Is What A OnePlus 3T User Felt After Upgrading To The Latest Lava Red OnePlus 5T

When OnePlus launched the OnePlus 5 last year, it followed it up with the OnePlus 5T just five months after. Yet though the former was packed to the teeth with features, the 5T somehow managed to one-up it with a few added features.

At the time we questioned just how good it would be for older OnePlus model users to upgrade to the 5T. Now, I decided to try it myself, after close to a year spent using the OnePlus 3T. So here are a few things I noticed.

Phantom Home Button Syndrome

Right of the bat, as soon as I powered on the 5T, I found myself reaching for the home button I'd become accustomed to. After all, I'd be using that convenient fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone practically every few minutes, so it's absence immediately threw me off. A few days after configuring the Face unlock, I still found myself thinking longingly of that scanner. Worse, the actual fingerprint scanner has shifted to the device's rear. It wasn't really tough for me to reach, considering I have long fingers, but it's certainly easy to forget about

While my ugly mug worked well enough to unlock the phone in most cases (instantaneous pretty much, though you have to wake up the display first) it did show a fraction of a second delay in darker environments.

Skinnier and prettier

The OnePlus 5T is a really attractive smartphone to look at, especially, the Lava red version launched this February 14. Skinnier than the 3T and sporting practically non-existent, with a metallic red sheen on the rear to match, it's definitely a style statement. On top of that, it's also got an upgraded display that's sharp enough to cut yourself on, and rich with colour. It's also worth mentioning the device has quite the loudmouth on it, making itself heard playing music, at a higher volume than even some mid-range laptops I pitted it against.

Capturing the best you

The 5T's new dual-camera system are also a joy to mess around with some really good low-light performance to show off. It also does a pretty great job with the bokeh on the portrait mode, though it's no competitor to the Google Pixel or iPhone X.

Performance still holds steady

As far as the compute power goes, there's not a big difference between the 3T and 5T. On the battery front, while the 3T has a larger battery, the 5T does have better battery optimisation, so they're kind of even. Moreover, since both devices have Dash Charge through the USB type-C cable, your always fully charged pretty quick. Not once with either device did I ever find myself in a spot scrambling for a charger.

So, is it worth upgrading from the 3T to the 5T? Definitely, particularly if you're someone that loves to click a lot of photos. Sure, it's not a cheap price tag to pony up for, but the Rs 33,000 on the OnePlus 5T is mighty attractive when you compare it to upgrading to the Google Pixel 2 XL, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, for instance.

So if you're a OnePlus fan wanting the best the company can offer, you really can't go wrong with this.
