Giant Bird Flying With Shark-Like Fish Is Making People Hunt For Answers

Internet is full of fun and cool things. Whether it is an adorable cat trying to get down the stairs or it¡¯s a new track from your favourite artist, we have so many things that help us stay entertained.

And recently, this video caught the attention of several people online, making their jaws drop.

The video (shared by Tracking Sharks) shows a huge bird carrying a fish what looks like a shark right from Myrtle Beach in South Carolina in the United States. The video, captured from a high-rise building also shows people completely surprised by the bird's swift move.

Birds of prey

While the video surely surprises us, it is not uncommon to see large birds as this one attack its prey in this fashion. Eagles, hawks, falcons all are known to spot their prey kilometres away and they swoop in right at the moment to catch them when the prey is the most vulnerable.

While it is difficult to really figure out what bird that is from the video, some Twitter users have tried to decode this mystery and most of them have come to a conclusion that it is actually an Osprey.

Also, in case you were wondering that was a shark, it mostly wasn¡¯t. Another expert on Twitter has claimed that the fish was a ladyfish.

Unusual bird hunting patterns?

Ospreys are also known as sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk. As the name suggests their diet mostly consists of fish and they¡¯re known to be expert hunters.

Their vision is well adapted to detecting underwater objects from the air. They can easily sight their prey from about 10¨C40 metres after which they swoop in and grab them.

They prefer preying on fish weighing 150¨C300 grams and about 25¨C35 centimetres in length. However, the weight can easily range from 50 grams to 2 kilograms.

Ospreys are commonly present across the entire world, except the continent of Antarctica, as per Wikipedia. They¡¯re actually the second most widely distributed raptor species, after the peregrine falcon.
