Despite Anti-Vaxxers, US Covid Vaccination Hits 2 Million Doses Per Day
Last week, the US authorities also greenlit the use of the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine for emergency use.
Today the US has reached a commendable milestone. It administered an average of two million doses of the novel coronavirus vaccine across the nation for the first time on Wednesday. This is according to data by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
To put things into perspective, just a month ago, this number sat at 1.3 million doses. The current rate of vaccination is also way ahead of the goal set by President Joe Biden who had promised to administer 1.5 million doses a day.
His next goal was to administer 100 million vaccines as he completes his 100th day in the office, which comes around April 30, 2021.
Last week, the US authorities also greenlit the use of the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine for emergency use, however, the data for these vaccinations aren¡¯t visible in the CDC data yet.
Hitting the target of 2 million doses is commendable as the nation continues to struggle with various challenges surrounding supply, logistics as well as trust in vaccines. Most vaccines require special refrigeration that is not available at every location. Moreover, Biden has promised that it will bring enough doses to the US by the end of May this year.
Anti-vaxxers continue to be a problem
Anti-vaxxers are continuing to maintain their stance of not trusting the vaccine and avoid getting vaccinated. A study from the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention from December revealed that just under half of adults in the US are willing to get vaccinated.
This might seem like a massive growth compared to say in September when only 39.4 percent were willing to get vaccinated, however, it is still below the 70 percent to 85 percent mark that scientists claim is needed to nip the virus in the bud.
Non-vaccination of anti-vaxxers not just puts their health and well-being in jeopardy but also contributes to the novel coronavirus spreading more potently and getting more intense, dangerous, claiming more lives along the way.
