As Netflix actress Nana faces backlash for The BOYZ's Sunwoo comment, her Kim Soo Hyun dating rumors resurface

South Korean actress Nana, who wowed everyone with her intense performance in Netflix¡¯s Mask Girl, is going viral, and not for the right reasons. She recently dropped a comment under a post about THE BOYZ¡¯s Sunwoo, calling out the idol for what was described as ¡°rude¡± behavior that she believed warranted a scolding.

Needless to say, the internet has thoughts. Some are backing Nana, while others are wondering why she felt the need to air it out publicly, especially when it comes to a 4th gen idol with a massive fanbase.

Why did Nana call out Sunwoo?

Earlier this month, a clip of THE BOYZ¡¯s Sunwoo went viral on X (formerly Twitter), and it's been stirring up some drama ever since. In the video, Sunwoo is seen shouting, ¡°My AirPods!¡± after apparently dropping them. Instead of picking them up himself, he walks away, and a security guard eventually hands them back to him.

For those who may not know, in Korean culture, it¡¯s considered respectful to accept something from someone, especially an elder or someone you don¡¯t know well, with both hands. The security guard used both hands to return the AirPods, but Sunwoo took them with just one.

That small gesture sparked a bigger conversation. Even though Sunwoo later clarified on a fan platform that he did thank the guard, saying, ¡°I always thank people, even when they hold the door. I say hello to everyone, including janitors. I¡¯ll be more mindful so this doesn¡¯t happen again,¡± the moment still rubbed some people the wrong way.

One of those people was actress Nana. Mask Girl star and former After School member chimed in on a social media post to comment, ¡°Someone needs to tell him off.¡±

And just like that, the internet split in two. Some say Nana was just being honest. Others think she was out of line.

Nana defends her comment

Nana didn¡¯t back down. In a post shared online on Sunday, she said that if she had seen Sunwoo¡¯s behavior in person, she would have called him out right then and there.

¡°Yes, it doesn't make sense to judge a person with a short video,¡± Nana said. ¡°But I wasn't defining his character. His actions seemed very rude, and it shocked me. I felt that what he did and said was wrong, and that's why I said, 'Someone needs to tell him off.'¡±

¡°He shouted, 'My AirPods,' so that everyone could hear him, but he, himself, didn't move one step closer,¡± she continued. ¡°Who was he telling to pick it up? Was he unable to move? Was he ordering the guard, for simply being a guard, who could have been years older than him? Did he need someone else to be his hands and feet? Was he telling the AirPods to walk back to him?¡±

¡°I watched the video over and over again. I don't know who he is, but if he were next to me, I would have said the exact same thing. 'Someone needs to tell you off' and 'Where did you learn to act like that?¡± she said.

The internet is furious at Nana's defense

Nana's defensive comment did not go down well with many, with fans calling out the double standards in the Korean industry. Many said that while a simple miscommunication is treated as a crime, celebs, including Nana, have maintained their silence on Kim Soo Hyun's scandal, who is accused of grooming the late actress Kim Sae Ron.

Nana and Kim Soo Hyun's dating rumors

What's more shocking is that Nana was once rumored to be dating Kim Soo Hyun. Almost a decade ago, Nana found herself at the center of speculation after a report surfaced claiming she and Kim Soo Hyun had described each other as their ideal types in an interview.

However, Nana put the rumors to rest on Mnet's Beatles Code 3D, revealing that the gossip originated from false claims made by a reporter and that there was no truth to the alleged affair.
