US President Donald Trump blocked nearly all foreign students from entering the country on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Amid the ongoing row against the premier institution of Harvard University, Trump, in a fresh executive order, said that for Harvard to continue to accept international students on its Cambridge, Massachusetts, campus would jeopardise national security.
According to the Associated Press, Trump quoted, "I have determined that the entry of the class of foreign nationals described above is detrimental to the interests of the United States because, in my judgment, Harvard's conduct has rendered it an unsuitable destination for foreign students and researchers.¡±
The statement has sparked concerns over the ongoing tensions between the Donald Trump administration and the country¡¯s oldest university.
Donald Trump signs order banning foreign students at Harvard
In a fresh row, a federal court in Boston blocked the Department of Homeland Security from barring international students at Harvard the previous week.
The report claims that a distinct legal power is invoked by Donald Trump¡¯s order. Moreover, the recent order came after Harvard refused to submit to a list of demands put forth by the federal government.

Following this, the Department of Homeland Security noted that Harvard refused to share the records linked to misconduct by foreign students. However, the university asserted that it had fulfilled the request, while the government maintained that the response was inadequate, as per the report.
A total of 19 countries are a part of this ban
The latest order has come as a big blow as President Trump signed a proclamation instituting a complete and partial travel ban for people from particular countries into the United States.
The list includes a total of 19 countries, which take effect from 12:01 AM Monday.

What happens to the students who are already enrolled?
As per the suspension, the order has suspended the entry of any new Harvard student as a nonimmigrant under F, M or J visas.
Additionally, the Secretary of State is also to consider revoking the existing F, M, or J visas for the current students who are enrolled in Harvard and who meet the Proclamation's demands.
The White House stated that Harvard has established deep ties with foreign adversaries, including receiving over $150 million from China alone.
On the other hand, speaking about the order, Trump stated that the United States aims to "have great students here". Simply put, we don't want disruptive pupils. We'd want students. I'd want to have international students.
