Forest Officials Close Gir Road Temporarily To Give Privacy To Mating Lions
The forest department in Junagadh has decided to close the 14-km stretch from Sasan to Visavadar to give mating lions some space. The step was taken after the forest department received a call on Friday evening complaining that a male and female lion were mating alongside the road and the male lion was becoming aggressive.
We give personal space to humans, so it's only fair that animals also get some, at least once in a while. The forest department in Junagadh has decided to close the 14-km stretch from Sasan to Visavadar to give mating lions some space.
The road was closed on Friday afternoon till Saturday morning. However, it will now remain closed only during the night as lions have gone deeper into the forest, to mate. All the people who¡¯ll go inside the forest in the morning or afternoon will be tracked from the time of their entry to the time of the exit.
The step was taken after the forest department received a call on Friday evening, complaining that a male and female lion were mating alongside the road and the male lion was becoming aggressive. It chased a car and also a man on a motorbike.
Forest officials are making sure that the lions are not disturbed while mating. After lions went deep inside the jungle the road was opened for visitors, but it will still be closed at night.
