Other names for it include the Snow Moon, the Winter Maker Moon, and even the Moon of the Antler Shedding. This time of year is when many deer species start to shed their antlers, which explains the last word. Every year, the antlers often get longer.

The longer duration of the Cold Moon provides extended viewing chances over the long winter hours. The Old Farmer's Almanac states that the winter solstice Moon "takes the highest path along the sky and is above the horizon for longer than any Moon - hence, it's the longest night."
When Will It Appear?
The Cold Moon, the 13th and last full moon of 2023, will reach its zenith on December 26, the day after Christmas. CNN reports that the event will take place across at least three nights rather than just one. The moon will remain brilliant until December 27, having risen on Monday.
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the Earth's satellite will be at its greatest fullness at 7:33 p.m. on Tuesday (about 6 a.m. IST on Wednesday), the site added.
