The bodies of the only white female giraffe and her calf were found recently 'in a skeletal state after being killed by armed poachers' in Garissa in eastern Kenya, the Ishaqbini Hirola Community Conservancy said in a statement.
The death of these two rare white giraffes has left probably just one more of such kind in the entire world - a lone male, borne by the same slaughtered female, the conservancy said.
The female white giraffe garnered world¡¯s attention when she was first spotted in 2017 on the conservancy and then when she gave birth to two calves, the latest in August last year.
Endangered Borneo Pygmy Elephant Shot 70 Times For Its Tusks, By Poachers
Borneo pygmy elephants are an endangered species. In September 2019, the body of a male borneo pygmy elephant was found riddled by 70 bullets, according to post mortem report. It was reportedly killed by poachers for its tusks.
The body of the elephant was found floating in a river in Sabah, by farmers in a region of Malaysia.

Reports suggested that a bullet that went through the temple of the elephant might have led to its death.
Miscreants Tie Up Endangered Manatee And Drag It On The Road As It Tries To Escape
Last month, a heartbreaking video of an endangered manatee being tied up and dragged along a dirt road went viral. In the video, the mantee could be seen frantically trying to escape. More than half a dozen men pulled the manatee with ropes as its skin scraped across the ground and it frantically tried to resist with its flippers.
Hunting of manatees is illegal in Nigeria but they are targeted for their meat and oil. Their organs are reportedly used for traditional medicine.

These are just a few instances where poachers have disregarded the very survival of entire species to fulfil their selfish interests. Only stringent laws and more vigilant protection of endangered species can ensure that they do not go extinct.
