Air New Zealand Launches Bunk Beds For Long-haul Economy Passengers For $100 An Hour

Air New Zealand has unveiled plans to introduce a new bunk bed cabin for economy class passengers, offering a unique and comfortable sleeping experience during long-haul flights.
The airline will charge passengers an additional fee of $250 to $380 for a four-hour block, or approximately $100 per hour, to access these innovative sleeper pods.
This "world-first" design, known as the "skynest," aims to enhance the comfort and convenience of travelers.
Although the prototype of the sky nest has been revealed, bookings for the bunk beds will only be available in September next year.
The pods will be strategically placed between the economy and premium economy cabins on select long-haul routes, including the record-breaking 17-hour direct flight between New York City and Auckland.
Each pod will have a pillow, sheets, and blanket, and the bedding will be changed between sessions.
The airline has allotted a 30-minute transition time to ensure cleanliness and readiness for the following user. Passengers will be gently awakened by the crew at the end of their session, ensuring a smooth transition for all travelers.
Only one person will be accommodated in each bed, and passengers can reserve one session per flight.
For convenience, the pods will also feature USB charging ports, a reading light, and earplugs.
Safety remains a priority, as seat belts will be installed to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
Air New Zealand's introduction of the bunk bed cabin option aims to provide an enhanced travel experience for passengers on long-haul flights, offering them a comfortable and restful journey.
"Each passenger will be limited to one session, with families traveling on the same ticket able to book a session for each passenger, pending availability. Skynest provides economy passengers another opportunity to lie flat and rest during longer flights," Air New Zealand noted.
As per the company, introducing the Skynest cabin will "revolutionize the in-flight experience for economy passengers" and be "a real game changer."
