Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2023:?Why Is The Winner Being Criticised?
Say that again? You won¡¯t believe who just won the 2023 Miss Universe Zimbabwe pageant.?
Surprises are typical in the world of beauty pageants. But the Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2023 contest raised the bar in terms of surprising victors. The crowd was shocked when a participant who was somewhat out of the ordinary won the event, which usually honours brains, composure, and attractiveness.
Who Won The Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2023?
Zimbabwe returned to the Miss Universe contest in 2023 after a 22-year absence. But rather than rejoicing, some people are giving the nation and this year's 2023 Miss Universe Zimbabwe winner a serious side-eye.
Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2023, Brooke Bruk-Jackson, was crowned on September 16.
Jackson is white despite being a native of the nation, as you can see from images on her official Instagram. Many people were shocked to learn that she would be representing the African nation as the news of her new victory spread across social media over the weekend, especially given that the majority of the population is black and that non-black people make up just 2% of the country's nearly 16 million people.
Jackson, who will represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Universe pageant in 2023, has emphasised her delight and commitment to "being an example of grace, understanding, and inspiration to the youth of Zimbabwe."
She Posted Her Winning On Instagram
Bruk-Jackson gushed on Instagram about her passion for Zimbabwe and her responsibility to "serve our people" after she won.
In addition, she said, "I have won this crown for our lovely nation, to love and serve our people, to represent Zimbabwe abroad, and to show the world the uniqueness of Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans."
"I want to instill the spirit of 'ubuntu' and know that together we are strong and anything in life is possible. I want to be an example of grace, understanding, and inspiration to the youth of Zimbabwe," she added.
There Are Haters Too
A discussion on diversity, inclusiveness, colonialism, and the significance of skin colour has continued as a result of the many others who also came to Bruk-Jackson's support.
Others have noted that Aishah Akorede, a black woman, won the title of Miss Universe Ireland 2023 on Friday to much applause.
Last week, Bruk-Jackson attempted to address the criticism in a different Instagram post, writing: "The colour of our skin should not define a person or who each individual chooses to associate with..."
This means that regardless of skin colour or hair colour, we are all born the same way. We all arrived on Earth via the same route.
Earlier This Year Miss Netherlands Was A Transgender
Rikkie Koll¨¦, the first openly transgender contestant to win Miss Netherlands earlier this year, will represent the nation at Miss Universe in November as a result of her accomplishment.
Koll¨¦ would be the first transgender person to wear the Miss Universe tiara if she were to win. Since 2012, trans people have been able to participate in the pageant. In 2018, the first openly transgender competitor, Angela Ponce of Spain, entered the competition, but she was unable to move on to the finals.
