The research offers an overall retirement score for each city based on six factors:
- Affordability of housing
- Desirability
- Happiness
- Healthcare quality
- Taxes on Retirees
- The labour market
Despite the popularity of Florida's cities among retirees, the best U.S. city for retirees, according to the survey, is Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Florida and Pennsylvania have dominated the list, accounting for nine of the ten cities.
According to Kiplinger, Florida does not tax income, and Pennsylvania does not tax retirement pensions and distributions from 401(k)s, IRAs, or Social Security, which is tremendously advantageous for retirees.
