Centenarians At This Andhra Old Age Home Say Secret To Long Life Is A Positive Attitude
For residents at the Vayo Vrudha Charitable Trust in Vijawada, Andhra Pradesh, hitting the 100th milestone means celebration and, yes, for them their age is just a number.
The birthday celebrations include everything from playing musical chairs to running a race and the residents love it to the fullest.
Speaking to The New Indian Express, 101-year-old Malla Veerayya says, ¡®This is a moment which made me forget all my struggles in the past.'
Malla Veerayya won the race at the sports meet organised by the Vayo Vrudha Charitable Trust and she was among the 15 centenarians who were felicitated by Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao at the programme organised by the trust, states the NIE report.
Since the trust¡¯s establishment in 2007, the care takers have been , on the eve of International Senior Citizens Day, the trust has been honoring these old age people who have crossed century (100 years) of age.

The trust was started for many old people who cannot work to earn their daily food are simply thrown out by their own children. To make them happy and feel like young the rest the staff conducts games and cultural competitions for them.
¡°I was ill-treated and abandoned by my children once they got what they needed from me. I have been staying at Amma Old Age Home at Kesarapalli. I have nothing to look forward to. Participation in these kinds of events will provide me with some sort of relief from all the misery,¡¯¡¯ V Seetha Mahalakshmi told the Express.
Apart from giving support, medical camps are also being conducted at regular intervals for the inmates of old age homes, who were rejected by their family members, the trust chairman Challa Hari Kumar. Hari Kumar adds.
